Surrey is commuter country, but it is older than the commute. Reigate, Dorking and Leatherhead were market towns centuries before the trains arrived, while Redhill and Caterham are Victorian railway towns and Oxted grew the same way once its own line opened in 1884. Air conditioning has a particular logic in this county. Most of Surrey sits inside the green belt, so rather than moving, owners convert lofts, add glazed kitchen extensions and put desks in garden rooms, and every one of those bright spaces is prone to overheating from May to September. The modern answer is a discreet split system from Daikin or Mitsubishi Electric, which cools the room in a heatwave and doubles as efficient heating through the winter. We design each system around the room it serves, install it cleanly and service it for years afterwards.
The buildings
Surrey’s building stock, from Victorian villas to new estates
The county’s stock reads like a history of the London commute. Epsom keeps late Georgian villas, grand Victorian family houses and Edwardian semis on the leafy roads south of its Victorian clock tower. Redhill is a railway town of the 1840s with a conservation area at its centre, while Oxted mixes timber framed cottages in the old village with large Arts and Crafts houses and streets of thirties homes below the North Downs. Stoneleigh, beside Ewell, is a garden suburb built almost entirely of 1930s semis around its own station. Around them sit the big detached houses on private roads that Surrey is known for, in Kingswood, Limpsfield and along the wooded lanes between the towns.
Planning shapes everything. Around a quarter of Surrey lies within the Surrey Hills National Landscape and the district around Oxted, Godstone and Caterham is almost entirely green belt, so the towns cannot spread outwards. Owners push upwards and backwards instead, with loft conversions and rear extensions everywhere from Banstead to Ashtead, and those bright new rooms are exactly the ones that overheat. The exception is Horley, where fields on the edge of town are becoming Westvale Park, a new neighbourhood of well over a thousand homes near Gatwick. New build or Victorian, the cure for a stifling bedroom or home office is usually the same quiet wall mounted unit.

You are based in Storrington, can you really cover Surrey?
Honestly, yes, for most of the eastern side of the county. We are in Storrington in West Sussex, working across the South East, and the A24 and M23 take us straight up to Dorking, Reigate, Redhill and their neighbours. Installations are planned and booked in advance, so the distance rarely matters, and servicing visits are grouped by area to keep travel sensible. Call us with your postcode and we will say straight away whether we can get to you, and if we cannot, we will tell you that too.
Can you install air conditioning in a Victorian house or a conservation area?
Yes, and much of our Surrey work is exactly that. Modern split systems need only a small pipe run through the wall, so an Edwardian semi in Epsom or a Victorian terrace in Redhill takes a neat installation without losing its character. In conservation areas the outdoor unit needs thought, so we look for rear walls, side returns and screened corners, and a listed building will need consent before any outdoor plant is fixed to it. The indoor units are slim, quiet and easy to live with.
Our loft conversion is unbearable in summer, will one unit fix it?
Usually, yes. Loft rooms sit directly under the tiles and take the full force of the sun, which is why so many Surrey conversions are wonderful in April and unusable in July. A single wall mounted unit sized correctly for the room will hold it at a comfortable temperature even in a heatwave. Because Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric systems are heat pumps, the same unit warms the room efficiently in winter, when lofts swing the other way and lose heat fastest. One system does both jobs.
Do you handle commercial air conditioning as well as homes?
Yes. Shops, cafes, restaurants, offices and server rooms make up a good share of what we do. Market towns like Dorking, Reigate and Oxted have busy high streets, and Leatherhead has a real concentration of offices and research businesses. Our F-Gas qualified engineers install and service systems from Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric, and we offer planned maintenance so your equipment is checked before summer rather than repaired in the middle of it.
