Air conditioning in Sevenoaks

From Victorian villas beside Knole Park to new apartments at Ryewood in Dunton Green, we design, install and service air conditioning for homes and businesses across Sevenoaks.

Sevenoaks is one of Kent’s best known commuter towns, with Southeastern trains reaching London Bridge in around half an hour, and many of the enquiries we take from the town start with a home office. Spare bedrooms have become studies, lofts have become workspaces, and rooms that were only warm for a fortnight each summer are now occupied all day by someone on back to back video calls. A properly sized air conditioning system from Daikin or Mitsubishi Electric keeps those rooms comfortable through July, dehumidifies muggy afternoons and, run in reverse, heats them efficiently in January. Every system we fit is installed and maintained by F-Gas qualified engineers.

Arctic Cool is based in Storrington in West Sussex and works across the South East. We handle everything from a single wall mounted unit in a spare bedroom to multi room systems for large detached houses, along with comfort cooling for shops, cafes and offices in the town centre. We install new systems and service and repair existing ones, and we are straightforward about distance. Tell us where you are and what you have in mind, and we will say straight away if we can get to you, then follow up with a clear written quotation.

The buildings

From listed High Street townhouses to Ryewood new builds

The centre of Sevenoaks is genuinely old. The High Street conservation area, first designated in 1971, contains around a hundred listed buildings, and The Vine close by has been a conservation area in its own right since 1989. Georgian townhouses and Victorian villas here have solid brick walls, high ceilings, sash windows and original detail, so they need thought before anyone drills anything. On listed properties, listed building consent shapes where pipework runs and where the outdoor unit can sit. We plan installations so condensers stay off principal elevations and visible runs are kept short, and we will tell you plainly if a property is likely to need consent from Sevenoaks District Council before work starts.

Away from the centre the stock changes street by street. Kippington, on the station side of town, and the Wildernesse area out towards Seal are known for substantial detached houses on private roads, the kind of homes where a multi split or discreet ducted system can cool several bedrooms from one outdoor unit. Around the station the mix shifts to terraces, semis and apartments bought for the fast London connection, where a compact single split in a bedroom or loft office is the usual job. At Ryewood in Dunton Green, modern tightly insulated apartments and townhouses hold on to heat, and one quiet wall mounted unit transforms the living space.

The work

Air conditioning jobs we do in and around Sevenoaks

Most Sevenoaks enquiries fall into a familiar pattern. Loft conversions and top floor bedrooms that become unusable in a heatwave. Home offices that need to hold a steady temperature on video calls. Garden rooms and studios at the end of long plots, including houses on the roads around Knole Park, where a small heat pump based system provides cooling in summer and efficient heat in winter. On the commercial side we cool shops, cafes and restaurant floors along the High Street, plus offices, meeting rooms above the shops and the occasional server room. Every installation is carried out by F-Gas qualified engineers using Daikin or Mitsubishi Electric equipment.

  • Wall mounted splits for loft conversions and attic bedrooms
  • Multi room systems for detached houses in Kippington and the Wildernesse area
  • Quiet single splits for home offices and studies
  • Garden rooms, studios and outbuildings
  • Comfort cooling for High Street shops, cafes and restaurants
  • Server room and small office cooling
  • Servicing, repairs and refrigerant checks on existing systems

Questions

Asked before most jobs.

My house is in the High Street conservation area. Can I still have air conditioning?

Usually yes, with care. Conservation area status affects the outside of the building, so the main questions are where the condenser goes and how pipework is routed. We look for positions on rear or side elevations that keep the unit out of view from the street. If the building is listed you will need listed building consent from Sevenoaks District Council before installation, and we will tell you honestly whether your plans are likely to need it before you spend anything. The aim is an installation you barely notice.

You are based in Storrington in West Sussex. Is Sevenoaks not too far for you?

We are open about this. Arctic Cool is based in Storrington in West Sussex and works across the South East, and we plan installations so travel never affects the quality of the job, arriving with the equipment and materials to finish in one visit where possible. For servicing and repairs we group visits by area, so there may occasionally be a short wait for a non urgent appointment. Call us, describe the job, and we will say straight away whether we can get to you and when.

Our loft conversion is unbearable every summer. What would you actually fit?

For most Sevenoaks lofts the answer is a single wall mounted unit from Daikin or Mitsubishi Electric, sized from the room dimensions and glazing rather than guessed. The outdoor unit usually sits at ground level or on brackets on a rear wall, with a slim insulated pipe run up to the room. Modern units are quiet enough to sleep next to and double as efficient heating in winter, which matters in a room that loses heat through the roof as fast as it gains it in July.

Can you look after the air conditioning in our shop, cafe or office in Sevenoaks?

Yes. We install new systems and take on servicing and repair of existing ones, whether or not we fitted them. Sevenoaks town centre premises are often older buildings with limited plant space, so we survey first and are straightforward about what will and will not work. All refrigerant handling is done by F-Gas qualified engineers, and we keep the paperwork you need for compliance. Regular servicing keeps energy use down, keeps filters clean and catches small faults before they close you on a hot Saturday.
