The middle of Reigate is a conservation area full of listed buildings, with the Old Town Hall of 1728 at the top of the High Street and the castle grounds and their caves behind it. Around the centre, roads like Doods Road carry mid Victorian terraces, and the streets towards Wray Park and Reigate Hill fill out with substantial Victorian and Edwardian villas. Buildings like these need thought before anyone drills a wall. Outdoor units have to be sited discreetly, pipe runs kept tidy, and where a building is listed, consent sorted before work starts. Between the wars the town pushed south and the thirties left their mark, with parades and semis around Woodhatch, including Western Parade built in 1936, and family houses spreading through South Park and Meadvale. The fifties added council housing at Rushetts Farm, and today much of Reigate is detached family housing, with bigger plots out towards Reigate Heath. For us the pattern is a familiar one across Surrey. Loft rooms under thirties roofs overheat, glazed extensions on the back of semis cook on summer afternoons, and larger detached houses suit multi split systems that cool several bedrooms and a home office from one quiet outdoor unit tucked out of sight.

Do I need permission to install air conditioning in Reigate town centre?
Sometimes. The centre of Reigate is a conservation area and many of its buildings are listed, so the outdoor unit needs thought. On a listed building you will usually need listed building consent before fixing anything to the fabric, and in the conservation area siting matters. We look at each property, suggest positions that keep the unit out of sight, and tell you plainly whether you should speak to Reigate and Banstead’s planning team first. There is nearly always a workable position, even on a tight plot.
Can the same system heat my house in winter?
Yes. The Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric systems we install are air to air heat pumps, so they cool in summer and heat in winter from the same wall mounted unit. That matters in draughty Victorian houses where one room never quite warms up. Plenty of customers fit one for a hot loft room in July and then find it becomes the quickest way to warm that room on a cold morning. We size the system so it does both jobs properly.
My loft conversion overheats every summer. What would you actually fit?
Usually a single wall mounted split, with the indoor unit high on the wall or in the eaves and the outdoor unit sited discreetly at ground level or on a flat roof. Loft rooms under a warm roof are the classic overheating case in streets of converted Victorian and thirties houses, and a properly sized split runs quietly enough to sleep under. If the eaves make a wall unit awkward, there are low level and concealed options too. We survey first and confirm the pipe run before we quote.
